The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. At work today in over 40 countries, the IRC aims to restore safety, dignity and hope to millions who are uprooted and struggling to endure.
In response to the arrival of refugees in Greece in 2015, the IRC has been offering SMS, WASH, Livelihoods and Protection services to children, women and people in need of mental health support. IRC Hellas currently has offices in Athens and on Lesvos and Samos.
Scope of work
IRC Hellas supports vulnerable youth refugee and host communities in Athens to access income generation through employment and self-employment services, directly and in collaboration with partners. IRC Hellas is recruiting two Job Counselors to be responsible for assisting clients with career counseling and training. The Job Counselor(s) will also be responsible for delivering job readiness trainings to program participants and ensure that clients are prepared to access and thrive in the Greek labor market.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Provide intake and assessment for clients seeking employment services
Assist clients gather necessary documents to ensure access to the job market
Assist clients individually & in group career coaching sessions in order to develop a career pathway
Provide one-on-one career services. Help clients develop a professional CV and cover letter, to identify relevant employment opportunities and provide overall support throughout the professional job search
Prepare clients for job interviews and employment orientations
Conduct soft skills and job readiness group training sessions to help clients gain market relevant skills
Conduct labor rights informational sessions
Job match clients with vacancies and opportunities
Assist clients with enrollment in post-secondary, recertification programs and non-formal and formal vocational training opportunities in line with client needs.
Research potential industries, employers, training programs and trends in Athens workforce
Support the business outreach process and represent organization in external job fairs and networking meetings
Program Coordination Responsibilities
Propose and develop other support services that serve the program goals and clients’ needs
Maintain an accurate and up-to-date management system, case notes and other electronic files
Work with the Senior Livelihoods Officer to develop training curricula that are up-to-date, meet training objectives and are being effectively and uniformly implemented
Support referral pathways from IRC to other employment, business development and vocational training providers
Any other task designated by the Senior Livelihoods Officer as requested.
Coordination and Administration
Coordinate closely with IRC Logistics, Finance, and Grant staff to ensure timely and compliant program activities and expenditures
Work constructively within the team and take initiative on new tasks
Prepare purchase requests as needed for program
Maintain program files and regularly update monitoring databases
External: Relevant working groups, local and national government entities such as OAED, Chambers of Commerce, businesses and business development entities, peer and partner agencies.
Other details:
This position will be based out of the IRC center in Athens, Greece, and may require occasional travel to other locations.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field, master’s degree a plus
At least 2-year experience providing employment services with excellent performance and demonstrated ability to serve a case load and perform cross-cutting tasks that support the team
Demonstrated experience with the Greek job search process and the ability to effectively coach clients through the nuanced process of securing career path employment
Knowledge of career path options, especially those paths accessible to immigrants
Proven ability to work with consideration and respect for cross-cultural differences
Excellent communication skills, with fluency in written and spoken Greek and English.
Computer skills, in particular Excel
Very strong organization and interpersonal skills
Enthusiasm for helping people to learn and demonstrated professionalism
Proficiency in Greek and English required; knowledge of another language i.e. French, Urdu highly desired
